Alison Buttenheim is a Professor of Nursing and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, where she co-directs the Behavioral Economics and Global Health Insights Lab. Using the techniques and frameworks of behavioral economics, Dr. Buttenheim designs, test, and scales innovative interventions to prevent and mitigate infectious diseases. She is a recognized expert in the area of vaccine acceptance, with a particular focus on school entry vaccine mandates and exemption policies in the US and on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance globally. She is currently NIH-funded to test psychological inoculation approaches to protecting adolescent girls and young women in South Africa against HIV vaccine misinformation.
